Redcar Seafront Redcar Seafront is only a 13-minute drive or 22-minute train away from Teeside University. It’s the perfect place for a Sunday stroll and some fish and chips. Hartlepool Full of heritage, Hartlepool is great for an afternoon out. Only an 18-minute drive or 40-minute train from Teeside University, you can pay a visit to the National Museum of the Royal Navy if you’d like a history lesson or head to Crimson Dene Beach for a beautiful coastal walk and a coffee. Durham Heritage Coast Slightly further away, but still easily accessible and a lovely day trip, Durham Heritage Coast is only a 30-minute drive from Teesside. The Durham Coastal footpath is a beautiful 11 mile stretch of historic coast with wild cliffs and dunes.
2. A great night out
When your study schedule allows for an evening off, Teesside’s nightlife is there to welcome you with open arms. There’s something for everyone, if you’re looking for a big night out The Hub is a 1000 capacity University Students Union hosting award-winning nights of entertainment. If you’re looking for something a little bit different the old port of Yarm is awash with chic bars and restaurants. There are several watering holes around Linthorpe Road and the center of town, or for a quiet evening, you can also enjoy a pint in the comfort of a micropub.

3. Excellent transport links
One of the most appealing aspects of Teeside University is the excellent transport links across the U.K. If you’ve traveled from overseas and it’s your first time living here you’ll definitely want to explore what the rest of the country has to offer. WithYork and Leeds only one hour away and Edinburgh and London just under three hours away, you’ll be spoilt for your weekend away choices.
4. Beaming with culture and history
Middlesborough is a hotspot for art and history lovers. MIMA in Central square exhibits contemporary arts and crafts, alongside the Heritage Gallery at Cargo Fleet which explores Teesside in creative ways. The Teesdale Way A 148km trail that follows the banks of the River Tees, is great if you’d like to discover Middlesborough’s industrial heritage.
Albert Park & Stewart Park A great local spot for keen joggers, roller skaters, and tennis players! Albert Park is also fantastic for boating enthusiasts. Stewart Park is conveniently placed next to Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, where you can enjoy some lively historic parkland and lakes.
North York National Park Slightly further afield, this national park encompasses the ‘Dinosaur Coast’ given its name famously due to the fossils found along with it.
